After two days of strong winds and stormy conditions the fjord was still in the mists of calming down. A tricky morning followed by a terrific afternoon. Our express tour set out and zoomed up and down the fjord searching our hardest to find our whales. Our captain spotted a humpback whale go down for a dive and we waited for 20 mins for it to resurface but it didn´t so we went off in search of something else. At which point we found some beautiful harbour porpoises, who surfaced happily in the waves. Did you know that you can sometimes find whales by the smell of their breath? That is what happened today on our classic tour! After searching the waves, we smelt rotten fish which led us to this lovely minke whale. Which surfaced a few times but was hard to follow. Later on in the tour yet another minke was found but this one was much nicer and came up very frequently and came quite close at times. Just as we were leaving we saw huge splashes in the distance so of course we headed towards them and found a breaching minke whale, which is incredibly rare to see! It was so surprising that unfortunately we didn´t get any photos of it but we will always have fond memories of this special event.
