Sunday, 4 July

Cloudy but not very windy morning greeted us in Akureyri with 2 Minke whales just by Hjalteyri! The whales were very relaxed and we had few amazing encounters as they came up to the surface very close to us. One od the whales at some point did a very unusual movement, rolling himself in a cirle and putting his tail out of the water, what a rare sighting! We already felt like this can’t go better when we got a phonecall from a friendly boat that there is a Humpback Whale further out. We rushed there to check it out and it was indeed the same whale as we’ve been seeing yesterday. This is definitely an adult individual, judging by the size and reference of proportions next to our boats. The whale was very calm and one time came up just right next to us! The weather also got better, the sky cleared up and on the way back we enjoyed the sun. Fantastic day out there, 3 whales and good weather, that’s all we need to smile!
