Today we started the tour from an incredible surprise that was waiting for us just in Akureyri harbour - we just sailed out leaving the pier and seen 3 Minke whales actively lunge feeding! This rare sighting - both with how close to the town they were and how rare is to see them popping out their heads out of the water with such rapid movement to trap the food at the surface was spectacular to watch and we stayed in the area to see if they would be willing to come up closer but clearly they were keen on eating and we sailed out further north. Just by Hjalteyri we spotted first blows and it was 3 Humpback whales travelling together! As soon as we aproached them they changed direction and started heading towards us so we stopped the boat and they came up just 15m away from us! We decided to stay in the area as meanwhile we spotted few more blows around and it was a great decision as overall we counted at least 9 more individuals!

15 WHALES ON ONE TOUR! What a day out there!
