Dream weather in the fjord! Finally a sunny day with no wind! The fjord was flat as a mirror with a thick layer of ice still in the harbour. We sailed out in the morning passing by lots of birdlife, we were lucky to see common loons just after leaving Akureyri! These birds, incredibly rare for some reason like our fjord very much as each year we see more and more of them. We sailed out all the way north of Hrisey and had a beautiful show from Harbour porpoises on the way, but no bigger cetaceans were spotted. Once we turned around we received a phonecall about a Minke Whale!! someone spotted it from the boat on the other side of Island, we were running out of time so we asked everyone if it’s ok to come back late and everyone agreed to go there. Sadly, we didn’t found that whale, Minke whales are deep divers that can hold their breath up to 45minutes, they rarely do that but this time we were not able to find him. The tour came back over an hour late, we did our best try and invited everyone to join us again for free as we know how great it can be.
