The day started out calm with very smooth water. The Northern bottlenose whales were no longer in the harbour today, but we found them south of Hjalteyri. They are still showing the same behaviour with one of the females spending a long time floating at the surface. South East of Hrisey we encountered two Humpback whales, the animals were behaving very calm, spending quite some time at the surface and going for dives of only a few minutes at the time. In the afternoon the weather took a complete turn and the wind picked up extremely fast, therefore the Express tour had to turn back to Akureyri without having seen any animals. The Classic tour, that had sailed out an hour earlier, managed to encounter one the Humpback whales close to Grenivík.
Due to the weather, the 17:00 o’clock Classic tour was cancelled. Hopefully the wind will calm down again before our departures tomorrow.
