Another beautiful winter day in Eyjafjordur. Today it’s a second day of with no sunlight above Akureyri - we have about 4h of daylight but no sunlight as the sky has been covered with clouds and it doesn’t get bright enough to experience the actual sunlight. In these dark times we are still able to spot whales tho! A highlight of the day was a beautiful relaxed humpback whale gently drifting and diving around Svalbardseyri. It didn’t take us longer than 20min to find a whale today and we had couple of beautiful encounters where the whale popped up right next to us. The whale was calmly surfacing as frequently as every 14min which seemed considerably long as for recent days and not the deepest waters but that gave us just enough time to dive into discussing secret gems of the surrounding area and spot some actively feeding birds such as Common Guilemmots, Iceland Gull, Eider ducks.
