Another beautiful winter day in the fjord with a perfect sailing conditions and whales so close to Akureyri. Today we sailed out from the fish harbour as there was too much ice in the main harbor to bring our boat to our usual starting point but the other harbour is just 3min drive away from our office! We barely went over the safety points on the tour when the whales popped up just 500m away from us, surfacing calmly and regularly. We had lots of great encounters today - at some point one of the whales started to pop up his head out of the water breaking the ice! it really looked like they are just being playful and curious, they came very close to us and went for a dive just meters away. Everyone was left speechless and we sailed back to the harbour chatting about whales in Iceland and having some hot chocolate. Amazing day out there!
