Whale hello there!
We sailed out into a very windy Eyjafjörður, but since the waves were not too big we sailed out slowly into the fjord.
The first animals we spotted were the Northern Fulmars, enjoying life to the maximum just gliding above of the waves, just as they do during their winters out in the Atlantic. But do not worry because we also saw whales!
We encountered a Humpback whale just by the green buoy and it stayed with us, surfacing very frequently and close!
It is very curious because it is not the first time we have encountered this Humpback. It doesn’t have a name yet, but we also saw her in April. This whale has some small deformation on its tail. This is a rare thing in whales because if they are born with malformations that will only make them more vulnerable to predators, therefore it is not a thing we get to see very often.
But it was swimming as graciously as any other of our lovely gentle giants, so its most likely unaffected by this small defamation.
