Today, we set sail on a crisp, sunny day with a temperature of just 4°C — perfect conditions for a day out on the water. The clear sky and calm seas made it an ideal day for sailing, and we couldn't wait to explore the waters north-east of Hrisey.
As we sailed along, our eyes were constantly scanning the horizon, hoping to catch a glimpse of a whale blow. The waters were serene, with only a few birds resting on the surface or flying overhead in search of their next meal. Despite the peaceful surroundings, there was no sign of any whales—yet.
But our luck soon changed. As we turned southward, we received word from another boat that they had spotted a spout to the north. Excited, we quickly adjusted our course and headed back in that direction. After some time, our patience paid off when we finally saw it — the unmistakable spout of a whale breaking the surface.
To our delight, it was the same humpback whale we had encountered five days ago. It seemed as though this majestic creature had decided to pay us another visit! As if to greet us, the whale surfaced closer to our boat than before, giving us the perfect opportunity for an up-close look. The graceful movements of the whale were a sight to behold.
Before diving back into the deep, the whale treated us to one final, stunning display — a beautiful fluke (tail) as it gracefully disappeared beneath the waves. We were able to catch a few more glimpses of the whale before it ventured deeper into the ocean.
After such an exciting encounter, we sailed back to the harbor, still in awe of the incredible wildlife we had witnessed. The sunny weather and peaceful atmosphere made it a day we’ll remember for a long time. There’s truly nothing like the thrill of sailing and witnessing nature’s wonders up close!
Until next time, the ocean will always have something special to offer.
