At the northcentral coast of Iceland the 60 km long and narrow fjord of Eyjafjörður stretches inland. There, nutritious and cold waters from the north are carried with coastal currents inside the deep fiord. The rivers responsible for providing this coastal area with freshwater runoff, loaded with various nutrients, are Svarfaðardalsá river and Hörgá river to the west, the Eyjafjarðará river at the bottom of the fiord and Fnjóská river to the east.
This 1,5-2,5 hr. Express whale watching is a small group tour on custom made 12 seater RIB boats, that can get you closer and faster to the optimal whale watching areas. This means a bigger chance of spotting whales, dolphins and bird life with out disturbing any natural behaviours. We guarantee an intimate and up close experience in Iceland's longest fjord!

Flat and sunny morning, 2 Humpback whales SE of Hjalteyri. 1 Minke Whale swimming around the same location. Bit cloudier this afternoon with very light breeze spinning over the fjord. Perfect whale watching conditions today.
This Thursday began with overcast skies but no wind, creating calm, mirror-like seas, ideal for whale watching. The still conditions set the stage for a memorable day out on the water.
During the morning tour, we encountered three Humpback whales just south of Hjalteyri, and to our delight, Northern bottlenose whales appeared in the same area. We also caught glimpses of Harbour porpoises along the way. In the afternoon, near the Green buoy, two Humpbacks surprised us with synchronized pectoral slapping. After their lively interaction, one whale stayed near the buoy while the other swam north toward Hjalteyri.
Sunny, moderate wind from south west turning in all directions - which makes some parts of the fjord a bit bumpy and some completely flat. We saw a Minke Whale North of Hjalteyri, Humpback Whale further towards Hauganes and few times we have been lucky to see Northern Bottlenose Whale pod, which happened to appear out of nowhere around the Green Buoy.
We had really nice weather all they with calm seas and a bit of sunshine.

As the moon swells toward its fullest glow, something magical stirs in Eyjafjörður. With each tide it tugs a little stronger, drawing plankton closer to the surface and right behind them, our majestic ocean giants follow. These moonlit days have brought unforgettable moments on the fjord, and today was no exception. We were treated to an extraordinary gathering of whales—four different species in one breathtaking day!
We had a sunny day, although the wind gradually picked up as time passed. The first whale we spotted was a humpback whale, right by Pollurin. After that, we saw several more humpbacks south of the green buoy and near Hjalteyri.
We were also very lucky to witness a rare encounter: a group of at least seven northern bottlenose whales, an uncommon sight in these waters.
Today, we sailed north from the harbor in around 15°C weather and encountered an incredible group of at least seven humpback whales near the green buoy, heading toward Hjalteyri. We witnessed multiple breaches, tail throws, tail slaps, and even saw harbour porpoises on the way.

In the morning, we saw a shy Minke Whale, but the highlight came north of Hjalteyri, where up to four Humpback Whales approached our boat, offering unforgettable close encounters. One even breached several times, leaving everyone in awe. In the afternoon, we returned to the same area and spotted another Humpback Whale diving gracefully. Then, near Grenivík, we saw another individual breaching repeatedly and showing off its pectoral fins, an incredible sight that continued even as we left the area to be back on land.
There are few sights in nature as breathtaking as a humpback whale breaching the surface of the ocean, and we were lucky enough to witness just that. Towering above the waves, suspended for a moment in time before crashing back into the sea, it was a moment of awe, power, and pure magic.
On our latest ocean adventure, the humpback whale stole the show. These gentle giants, known for their acrobatics and hauntingly beautiful songs, treated us to an unforgettable performance. The photo captured here is more than just a snapshot, it's a memory of nature’s grandeur in full motion.

Light snow fell over the mighty mountains surrounding our beloved fjord in the days leading up to today; you can feel the crispness in the air, but that’s not going to stop us nor the whale that we got to spend time with!

Later, further north in the fjord, we encountered a new humpback with a nearly all-black fluke, also actively feeding. As we approached Akureyri on our way back, we saw a group of harbor porpoises near the harbor.
