As we went out this morning it was like sailing into the mists of Jurassic park or King Kong as there was a heavy fog over the fjord. However, this gave the tour a wonderful mysterious feeling and even though visibility was low were were able to find some beautiful harbour porpoises which were popping up out of the flat fjord. There was also a whole variety of bird life out on the fjord today including the playful puffins, northern fulmar, eider duck, arctic tern and cormorant. Further out it began to clear up a little and our first humpback whale of the day was spotted and then another and yet another in the distance! We settled for the two closest to us and were able to spend some time with these animals as they surfaced just wonderfully all around us. Our afternoon tour was a lot clearer and a lot less foggy and we were able to find the whales much easier. One humpback was surfacing very regularly so we stayed with this individual for a while and watched in awe as it BREACHED right in front of us surprising us all.
