Today we finally went out and we couldn’t be more excited after 3 days of a break from sailing! Cloudy and snowy morning greeted us in the fjord and just before the tour we’ve got a phone call about several humpback whales seen between Hauganes and Hrisey. We aimed there but the further we went the weather was getting worse, we couldn’t see the landscape, it was snowing and blowing and the swell on the see was raising with every meter we were getting closer to the north. Finally we spotted a whale! It was a Humpback whale and went for a dive without raising it’s tail as soon as we spotted him. We waited for 15 minutes and as there was no sign of the whale we headed out further north. The visibility was slightly better around Hrisey so we were hoping to be able to spot something more and there it was! another blow in the distance! We headed out there despite the swell and waves but just as with previous whale, it disappeared. We were moving back and forth trying to follow up on any of them, we spotted a blow in the south but it was too far for us to make it before the dive and never seen it again so it was most likely our first whale. A challenging tour today! We found at least 2 Humpback whales but because of challenging conditions and no good encounters we decided to give out complimentary tickets and invited everyone to join us again.
