Today was just magical for a whale watching tour. It was cold and we felt that but warm clothes and our warm overalls onboard kept us warm and comfy. Just before we encountered 3 humpback whale north of Hrísey the sun came up casting a beautiful light on the mountains around us. While we waited for those three amigos to come back to the surface we enjoyed the view of the surroundings in the fjord. Two humpback whales were traveling together when we encountered them and then Arheta Frankfin our star humpback on the month was traveling alone. We named Arheta Frankfin few years ago when we spotted him or her for the first time in the fjord. Her name should be Zorro in this author’s opinion she is the star of the month and the whale has a “Z” mark right at the bottom of the fluke. All the whales raised their fluke very high in the air so we got a great look on the pattern on the back.
Whale watching is always unpredictable in every way and today was just perfect. Cold and perfect.
