What an incredible day! We sailed out in good conditions today. It was a bit cold and rainy in the afternoon, but the sea was calm, so we had great conditions for whale watching!
In the morning we spotted two Minke Whales by the green buoy, which was a nice surprise after not seeing many Minke Whales in the last days. We sailed further north to spot at least 15 Humpback Whales again just in the area of Hjalteyri! We saw them all around us and had beautiful encounters.
On our afternoon tour we spotted numerous Humpback Whales in the same area again! On this tour we even had one unbelievably close encounter with one of the 15+ Humpback Whales that we saw on this tour. It just came up for a breath right in front of us while the boat was stopped and we were waiting for the next encounter! It was SO close to us, WOW!!! I am still speechless from that encounter, I really don’t think it gets much better. Then, as we were turning around to sail back to Akureyri, we also saw a tail slapping Humpback Whale in the distance.
This is truly a fantastic time to go whale watching here in our fjord!
