Wow, this spring weather has really been quite something over the past couple of days and forced us to cancel our tours for multiple days in a row. Thus, we were pleased when conditions had calmed down sufficiently to give it a try this morning as the wind was predicted to pick up in the afternoon again. The sea was choppy, but we were grateful that the mountains of the fjord could provide us with enough shelter. To the East of Hrisey, we found our first larger cetaceans in quite a while, a pod of 10-12 white-beaked dolphins, and were delighted! The dolphins came very close to the boat, investigating us from underneath and even leaping out of the water on a few occasions. After roughly 40 minutes it was time for us to turn back to Akureyri. Fingers crossed the cetaceans have returned to stay!
