We sailed out from Akureyri harbour in a very cold snowy Icelandic morning, that started to improve as we sailed through Eyjafjörður. Just before Hjalteyri we had a very brief encounter with three different Humpback whales, two bigger ones and a rather small ones who refused to show us its fluke… But that didn’t lasted long because one of the big humpbacks and the small one were not very keen to stay with the boat and they swam away. But we still had some more time with the other big humpback who was calmly surfacing around the boat and gently showing us its fluke. After a wile we ventured further out but since we couldn’t find any different species we slowly returned to spend some more time with our humpback friend. On the way back to Akureyri we had the opportunity to see some Arctic terns and some Northern gannets feeding which was amazing. and also some of the passengers and my shelf, were able to spot for a very quick moment a Minke whale travelling by the ship, who unfortunately refused to surface again.
