Summer is the time for coupling up and the whales have got the memo ;). All day we’ve been seeing pairs of Humpback whales surfacing and diving simultaneously. These pairs are unlikely to be breeding couples as 1. Eyjafjörður is a feeding ground and 2. Humpbacks aren’t monogamous. We were extremely fortunate, with a full fleet out today, to meet 4 of these paired Humpbacks very early, just outside Hjalteyri, giving us maximum whale watching time. These whales clearly enjoyed this spot as we found them there again in the afternoon only getting as far north as Kötlufjall. Alongside theses beautiful animals ideal spotting conditions delivered plenty of Porpoise and a Minke.
