The cold and rain are back, Icelandic summer can feel an awful lot like winter sometimes. But we braved the weather conditions and started the day of with a group of White beaked dolphins chasing fish just after Hjalteyri. There was a very small individual with them, very probably a calf. When we sailed further north we encountered two Humpback whales, one of which was the individual we named Zebra. First the animals were travelling north but after the boats of the classic tour departed, one of the Humpback whales even started breaching.
In the afternoon the dolphins had left, but we found 3 Humpback whales, 2 of which were the same individuals we saw before. Now they seemed to be feeding, surfacing for a few breaths and then going down for a dive. Once again when the classic tour left one of the individuals started breaching.
This shows that whales don´t mind the weather and even when the weather is rough sightings can be great.
