Sunshine, blue skies, calm waters and Northern bottlenose whales in the harbour! We are so happy to see these whales again as we have not seen them yet in our fjord this year. Northern bottlenose whales are a type of beaked whale that normally would live more offshore and hunt for squid in deeper water. But almost every summer since we started as a company here, they visit our fjord for a short time period.
In this case it is three animals that seem to be a male a female and a calve. These animals can take very long dives of over an hour, but as the water in the fjord is shallow they were taking dives between 15 and twenty minutes. Between dives they were behaving very calm at the surface, just floating or swimming very slowly. So we were able to see them extremely well. What an amazing surprise, we really hope these animals decided to stick around for a bit longer.

For the evening tour, we only took a quick look at the bottlenose cuties and decided to sail off into our lovely fjord in search of something different, and indeed we found it! Because just North of Hrísey island we found 3 Humpback whales coming amazingly close to the boar, but also a pod of around 30 White-beaked dolphins all of them porpoising non-stop but also jumping like crazy! What a whaletastic day we had in the fjord!!
