The sun has decided to hide its shining face today and so we sailed out in cloudy and rainy conditions. Luckily the rain stopped quite quickly after we left the harbour, making it a bit more pleasant to be outside though the northern wind was still very chilly. We had to sail a bit further north today before we had our first encounter South of Hauganes. The captain had been in touch with other whale watching vessels and there was news about four Humpback whales South of Hrisey. So we decided to continue our journey and we indeed encountered four Humpback whales, of which two were swimming very close together and synchronized. On our way back we encountered the group of four Bottlenose whales with the small calf that we have observed the last days, just outside of the harbour. We managed to get a short glimpse of them before they went for a deep dive and we had to return to Akureyri.
In the afternoon, we encountered three Humpback Whales close to Hauganes. We had some incredibly close and beautiful encounters with them! Additionally, we were able to see the pod of Northern Bottlenose Whales close to Akureyri as well.
