Another beautiful winter day in the fjord. Today we sailed out having dream conditions on the sea, the fjord was flat as a mirror and the light was just stunning falling into the everlasting sunset through out the tour. We were sailing north enjoying the calmness of the winter landscape on the way until we spotted our first blow by Grenivik! We waited few minutes and our first whale appeared in the distance, quite close to the coastline. It was a very relaxed Humpback whale and we got to see him several times before sailing further. While waiting for the whale to resurface we spotted more whales in the distance so we aimed to go east of Hrisey to take a look what’s there. On the way, another Humpback whale popped up north of Hauganes and the whale we were aiming to turned out to be a whale we know very well - Van Whalen! This individual was spotted in the fjord for the first time in 2017 and has been frequently coming back. We had few amazing encounters and spotted 2 more Humpback whales east of us and north from the first whale and 2 more Humpback whales further north which we decided to approach and we were just speachless. 2 whales swimming synchronically right in front of us, calm seas and a beautiful sunset. We had a very close encounter with these two and started sailing home. We came back to the harbour 10 minutes late, but it was so worth it! At least 6 Humpback whales today!
