Today was cloudy with a tiny gap in the clouds so the sun did eventually peak through. Absolutely no wind, only a light breeze around Halteyri. Other than that the sea conditions have been fantastic.
After sailing out for maybe 10-15 min, all a sudden one Humpback Whale surfaced right in front of us. We were surprised since we haven’t seen a humpback in this area (south Svalbardseyri) for some time. The sea was a mirror with a whale coming through. We’ve stayed with this guy for a little less than an hour. He spent about 12-16 min under water, but when he surfaced he was moving very slow and almost took a rest before he went down again.
Nice display of the fluke every time.
We left him alone and went for a little scenic cruise around the fjord before we headed back to the harbour.
Oh yeah, we also got checked out by a Harbour Seal that came close.
