Cloudy and rainy day in the fjord but beautiful smooth sailing sea conditions. Today there were a lot of boats in our area as there was a sea angling competition happening since early morning. The participants were competing over who will catch the biggest and the heaviest fish of each species and the awards were trophies which for local fishermen it’s not something you can pass by without trying. On the morning tour, we sailed out to Hrólfsker were we found some very relaxed seals and had an absolutely fantastic encounter with Harbour Porpoises! There was so much birdlife around Hrisey it became clear that summer is just around the corner. We saw Razorbills, Northern Fulmars, Eider Ducks, Laughing Gulls, Icelandic Gulls, Kittiwakes and even spotted the first Northern Gannet of the year! In the afternoon the wind picked up a bit and this time we sailed towards Olafsfjordur as we received a call about a sighting of White-beaked dolphins in the area. On our way back we took the opposite side of Hrisey but we weren’t lucky to find them. No whales were spotted today so everyone received a complimentary ticket.
