Whale hello there!
Today turned out to be an amazing day in our lovely Eyjafjörður. We departed in the morning from Akureyri with a but of a cloudy sky and just a chill breeze, but still with a mirror like sea. Overall it was a day full of life. With tones of Long tail ducks, Black Guillemots, Northern Fulmars, Kittiwakes, Aider ducks and even a couple of Arctic terns and Northern Gannets! But whale a surprise when we found one Humpback Whale just passed Svalbarðseyri, but since we saw some blows in the distance after a while we kept sailing north . and BAM all of the sudden we were surrounded by yet another Humpback Whale and also 3 Minke Whales and a couple of extremely cute Harbour Porpoises.

In the afternoon the conditions got a bit triky with the Northern wind piking up. But OMG it was so worthed, because not only we found the 2 Humpback Whales from the morning, but when we kept sailing North a bit up the fjörð, just next to Hjalteyri we found ourselves with 4 other Humpback whales, and it was such an amazing encounter indeed since two of the humpbacks were surfacing together and quite close to us. All of them showing us their beautiful flukes, but wait for it…. One of the Humpbacks decided to start breaching like crazy and when we got close to it it just started rolling on the side so we could really appreciate those super nice white flippers. And that my friends was the perfect ending to an amazing day!!!
So to sum up the count of the day we ended up with 3 Minke Whales, 6 Humpback Whales and a couple of Harbour Porpoises.
