Hi everyone,
Today in the morning we could have used our fjord as a mirror to shave in. Pure glass and no wind treated us beautifully, so we made our own wind. Sailing out multiple times to the east side of Hrisey (the second largest island in Iceland) and always finding the same 2 Humpback Whales throughout all day. These two were super relaxed and came really very close to our boats. It didn’t matter how big or small the boat was, they came and checked us out, but so did we. Getting some amazing looks of their massive bodies and unique features like the patterns on their flukes (basically the tail), which actually help us hugely to identify humpack whales. The wind picked up during the day coming from the north, which actually happens most of the days especially on sunny ones. The mountains surrounding our fjord are heating up a lot faster than the air over the water, therefore after around mid- day, the wind rushes down from the land onto the water which is going all the 60km from it’s northern most tip, down south to Akureyri. So there is lots of room to bild up wind and waves. But it was still very nice out.
Looking forward to seeing some new friends coming into the area very soon.
