Readers, welcome to the blog.
Choppy, wavy & wet. The conditions were pretty intense from the get go today on the RIB. The wind was coming from the South today so the way out wasn´t so bad, but, boi did the way back get wild. The cost certainty justified the reward, however, as around the South Hrisey area just past Hauganes we joined the whale party. At least 6 Humpback Whales, probably more, all within a pretty small area. One of these whales has been a regular visitor this year, with a mostly white fluke, but there were also 2 individuals with almost all black flukes. The colour of the Humpback Whale fluke gets graded from 1 - 5, 1 being all white and 5 being all black. Around the world the proportion of these grades varies and here in Iceland we tend to observe more individuals with a higher proportion of white (not that I have anything to back this up, but from my experience).
Unfortunately, because of weather conditions increasing in severity throughout the day, our afternoon rib and 1700 classic had to be cancelled.
