The weather today was cold and sunny with some sea fog as well as ice in the fjord.
We spotted one Humpback Whale by Svalbarðseyri! There, we had plenty of great encounters, the whale resurfaced very often. It did not lift the fluke very high before indicating the deep dives, often it simply arched the back in order to go for a deep dive. We did, however, have many very close encounters!
After sailing out further and returning towards Akureyri, we encountered the same Humpback Whale again. In the meantime, it swam south quite a bit and we spotted it just outside of Akureyri! What an exciting surprise just before being back in the harbor! This time, the Humpback Whale lifted the fluke much higher than before and it even got playful with the ice, that was on the fjord! We saw its head coming out of the water several times!
What a beautiful and super exciting encounter!
