The contrast between the mornings weather conditions and that of the afternoon was great; in the morning we experienced minor wind from the North and good visibility which changed very quickly into strong Northern wind, large waves, heavy snowing and 300 meter visibility come the afternoon.
On todays tours we saw a Minke Whale around the corner of Akureyri harbor; many White Beaked Dolphins in the area of the Green Buoy; a Humpback also South of the Green Buoy; and 5 Humpback Whales just South of Hjalteyri.
Following on from the dolphin encounters of yesterday, it was a pleasure to see them once again so far South in our fjord. Other than yesterday it had been since August 18th that we last saw dolphins! On our afternoon classic tour the dolphins were even further South, just around from the harbour, also making this the closest we have ever seen White Beaked Dolphins to Akureyri.
Due to the rapid change in weather conditions, our afternoon RIB (our last RIB tour of the season) was cancelled and our classic tour decided not to continue their tour any longer after the hour mark. Our customers were given refunds and an insight into why this country gets its name.
