The weather conditions today were variable, we had a Southern wind in the South of the fjord near Akureyri and as we went further North, around Hjalteyri, this switched to a Northern wind. The temperature was warm with a mixed cloudy sky and patches of rain.

In the morning, during our journey North, we encountered 3 Minke Whales. These were all located in the area from the Green Buoy to Hjalteyri. On a couple of occasions the surfaces were just next to the boat and all of our guests can call themselves ‘lucky’ as we not only saw the whales but we also smelt them. This was particularly unpleasant today. Further North from this we saw several Humpback Whales at a range of distances. In our visible range it looked to be that there were 6 Humpbacks spread between North Hjalteyri and Rauðavik. Many of these whales were surface feeding and so we saw much surface straining as well as some moments of surface activity with multiple distant breaches.
