An amazing day to be whale watching in Akureyri.

Today we had a Southwest wind with a mix of sun and cloud, and even a little bit of rain— all types of weather! On the morning tours we started off by spotting some Harbour Porpoises near the green buoy. Then just south of Hjalteyri, we saw 6 Humpbacks.

In the afternoon, we were fortunate to see a pod of White Beaked Dolphins south of Hjalteyri, which was very exciting as we don’t usually see them this far south in the Fjord. They were quite energetic and active, jumping lots. There were Humpbacks in the same area interacting with the dolphins and we suspect the Humpbacks were not too thrilled to have the dolphins surrounding them, due to a couple trumpets while the dolphins were jumping very close to them. We also saw another Humpback lunge feeding further east near the end of the tour.
