The sea state began with a glassy flat surface in the morning, increasing into moderate waves through to the later afternoon. The sky was overcast and rained up until around 8 pm.

There were many whales in the fjord today and each of them moved greatly from tour to tour. As of the evening, we saw roughly 6 Humpback Whales disributed from Svalbarðseyri to Hjalteyri. Several of the whales were feeding just below the surface, demonstrating surface staining behaviours and erratic feeding movements. One whale, Disy, was also seen full breaching and head slapping many times from a great distance away and later continued to do this on several occasions once we got closer. I am writing this in the middle of the night and so my desire to make this blog post sound all exciting is pretty slim, however, you can just take my word for it that it was a nice day.
