Góðan daginn faithful readers of our humble daily post,
everyone likes Monday, right? Seemingly the whales do as well, we have another summery day in the arctic paradise, it is almost windless out here and that is exactly the day, that both us and the passengers who decide to join us enjoy the most.
In the morning we found a few Humpback Whales closer to Akureyri than we are used to. Our dear friends have been swimming around Svalbardseyri and we have also found one, that breached a few times for us. Lucky are those, who get to see this behaviour in the feeding grounds as it is rare to observe. Also, we had one sleepy head around this area. What a scene, one is jumping, the other one is sleeping. There must be a little neighbour dispute between these two, haha. We also got to see a lot of tails going down and that is what we all love, whales showing tails is the food for our eyes and cameras! On some of our boats, we also spotted Minke Whales as well.
The afternoon brought us approximately to the same locations, we have been sort of moving between Gásir, Svalbarðseyri and just a little north of the Green Buoy, whales seem to like this area, especially now when the sediment is settling down. We got to see 3 Humpback Whales and also our smallest cetaceans - Harbour Porpoises. The weather seems to be steady now and it is really pleasant to enjoy these moments on the boat. Breathtaking landscapes, whales and hundreds of birds all around us - that is just something that does not get old.
There are some midnight tour departures and some of our lucky fellow sailors are still out there to tell us how the story continues, let’s wait together to see what is going to unfold.
Little update after the midnight tours - our whales did not fail to amaze us once again, 1 feeding Humpback Whale by Skjálðarvík. Another one East of Hjalteyri swimming along with a Minke Whale and a bunch of Harbour Porpoises, Now add to it a sunset of your dreams and that is exactly what you could experience with us tonight.
Lovely day it was.
