After a bit of sunshine, we’re back to some light rain and low hanging clouds, which gives our fjord a proper Icelandic vibe. The fjord was as flat as a lake today since there is no wind, making sailing nice and easy. During the day, the wind increased especially the further we got out. Sea conditions stayed very comfortable though. The sky started to open up a little bit in the afternoon.
On all our tours we encountered at least one Minke Whale and one Humpback Whale. The Minke was just next to the green buoy in the fjord and one of 2 Humpbacks which we have found today was just outside Hauganes, whereas the other one moved north along the island of Hrisey. On our way back we actually spotted 3 more Minke Whales in the area of Raudavik.
In general, the encounters we had today were lovely, with tails coming out waving at us, and Minkes popping up right behind the boat. One encounter was really very close, a Humpback decided to swim right between our two RIB boats.
One more detail to mention since it is rather interesting. There were hundreds of Puffins in pretty much every corner of the fjord. We have even seen them as far south as Svalbardseyri.
On our evening tours, we had the opportunity to see not only amazing Humpback whales, but also several dozens of White beaked dolphins. They jumped, slapped their tails, surfed the waves we made..
What an incredible day…
We are looking forward to what we will see tomorrow!
