The challenging weather is now finally leaving us, the morning was still a bit choppy out there, but this doesn’t matter when you can see those wonderful creatures in their natural habitat, right?
We sailed out towards Hjalteyri and basically between the Green Buoy and North of Hjalteyri there were around 5-6 cetaceans, We saw a few Humpback Whales from the distance and 2 of them from up close and then we found a Minke Whale South of Hjalteyri on the way back. The weather picked up and the sailing conditions got a bit challenging. But we were very lucky with some very close encounters. We also got to spot a pod of Harbour Porpoises on the way back.
After lunch we sailed out past the Green Buoy to find two Humpback Whales, one of them was breaching several times and also waved at us with its pectoral fin. The fluke of this one seems to be unknown to us so far. It is possibly having a stopover here before continuing its migration further south.
