A sky full of clouds for the last few days with sun sometimes trying to find its way through to brighten our day a bit. The fjord has been very flat these days and that always gives us good chance to not miss a thing on the water surface, as it is nice and easy on us and we have been recently so lucky with the whales, that it is just unbelievable and really fun for any of us coming to work around these beautiful animals.
The morning fleet found 3 Humpback Whales swimming side by side north of Hjalteyri, it is hard to describe how thrilling is what we saw from the boats in the morning, these three started to lunge-feed next to each other and one of our guides said, that it is the first time she has seen anything like this in the fjord. (And I assume she is the first one to see it around here from any of us.) This behaviour is super rare and we are just all so stoked to see it. After some time, one of the team swam a little further to find its way, we believe that this one on its journey was Piccolo, our favourite social Humpback Whale. The other two Humpbacks afterwards kept swimming together and kept lunge-feeding with mouths open wide. Such a show that you won’t forget. During these encounters we also saw 2 Minke Whales a bit west of this location. Crazy lucky day!
