Hello all you whale enthusiasts,
Today, we went out on the water with the wind from the north and moderate waves and rain.
Along the way, we had the opportunity to enjoy the fjord’s beauty with snow-capped peaks. We saw the first whales exhaling south of Hjalteyri. What kind of whale was it? It was a Humpback Whale. But it decided to stay under the water surface longer, so we decided to navigate the ship further north. Humpback Whales can hold their breath for almost an hour, but they usually surface every 5-10 minutes here. Around Hjalteyri we saw at least three other whale blows. One Humpback Whale came to take a closer look at us and we had the opportunity to see its majestic tail.
In the afternoon, we had the opportunity to see splashes, so we went to see, who was having fun and jumping in the waves... And it was our friend the Humpback Whale... It didn't jump just once, but we had the opportunity to observe its acrobatic stunts for more than an hour... Not only, that we had the opportunity to see its full beauty, but it even waved with its big pectoral fin at us... What a wonderful show this whale brought us today.
We are already looking forward to what tomorrow will bring!
