Today’s sailing adventure was truly something special. We set sail in chilly conditions, with the temperature hovering around freezing, but the light breeze made it feel quite refreshing. The sea was calm, almost no waves, and despite a few clouds scattered across the sky, the sun managed to peek through, casting a warm glow over everything.
We sailed east of Hrisey, hoping to catch a glimpse of the incredible whales that often grace these waters. And our patience was rewarded. First, I spotted a blow on the horizon – one whale, then another, and then a third. It was an incredible sight – three humpback whales surfacing and diving gracefully, each showing off their majestic flukes before disappearing beneath the water’s surface.
One of these whales was our old friend, Piccolo! It was so heartwarming to see him again, and even more exciting to see him with a new companion – a whale he must have met just yesterday. It was lovely to witness Piccolo socializing; he seemed to get along with his new friend perfectly. The two whales surfaced and dove together, sometimes side by side and other times at different moments, but always showing off their striking flukes.
The whales were surfacing frequently, giving us ample opportunity to admire their beauty up close. It was such a joy to share this experience with our guests, allowing them to observe the subtle differences in the whales' fluke coloration and shapes. It really highlighted the unique qualities of each whale, and the chance to observe them so closely was truly magical.
As the day went on, the quiet stillness of the fjord and the majestic whales around us created an unforgettable atmosphere. We could feel nature’s power and beauty all around, and we couldn’t help but look forward to what tomorrow’s adventure would bring. Who knows what other miracles nature has in store for us next?
Another beautiful day on the water, and we are already counting down the moments until the next one.
