We sailed out in a bit of mixed weather, it was mostly calm with good sailing conditions but while sailing out the wind did pick up for part of the tour.
We sailed to the northern end of Hrísey as this was the rough area where whales were spotted recently and there was supposed to be one Humpback Whale, which was already spotted there earlier today. It took some time and we sailed several rounds in the area northeast of Hrísey, but eventually spotted a blow behind our boat! What an exciting moment, everyone on board was very thrilled to finally see this whale. We stayed a bit longer and spotted this Humpback a few times, including some close encounters, in between longer deep dives. We got the proof once again that we are doing nature tours on the terms of wildlife in our fjord. Every day and every tour is different and you never know what to expect, which is also the beauty of it all!
This tour was a small emotional rollercoaster, but eventually it was so worth it staying out there a bit longer and spotting this Humpback as well as to wait through the deep dives for a few encounters with this wild animal in our fjord!
