Today, we sailed out into a snowy fjord with temperatures around -1°C, and as the afternoon unfolded, the sun began to shine through, revealing a beautiful blue sky. We headed southeast of Hrisey, hoping to find whales, but had no luck. However, just as we were nearing the harbor, our captain spotted some small dorsal fins, and we were delighted to see harbor porpoises, the smallest cetaceans in the fjord. Unlike dolphins, they have triangular dorsal fins and a small snout, and they tend to be more shy. Unfortunately, they often end up as bycatch in fishing nets, which explains their cautious nature around boats. It was a beautiful sight to witness these cute creatures, and we’re hopeful that in the coming days, we’ll be able to show our guests the larger cetaceans as well.
