Today we had the happy luck to be able to sail in calm Eyjafjörður. The weather starts to be rather warm with 7°C. At the beginning we had a thick layer of fog covering and hiding the mountains but as the tour progressed it dissolved. It started with small peaks of the tops and then we got to see the sky behind the clouds.

We didn’t get far from Pollurinn as right after it we had a pod of Harbour porpoises greeting us, foreshadowing the tour ahead. We didin’t need to sail far as we spotted not one, but two Minke whales east of Green byouy! They kept coming to the surface all around us, keeping us on our toes. They didn’t keep us waiting long though, as they showed themselves around every five minutes. We enjoyed our sweet time with them, but as we are a responsible whale watching company we don’t spend too much time with them.

Our move towards north was rewarded with two more Minke whales east of Hjalteyri! They weren’t as active as the two that we had spotted earlier, but still we got to enjoy their presence plenty. As with the two other Minke whales we didn’t spend unnecessarily long time with them as we had a feeling that we might still find something else on our tour.

The hunch was right! north of Hjalteyri we spotted a Humpback whale! The whales were truly spoiling us as it came up often as well, showing the beautiful fluke. With the several dives with the fluke we got some good pictures of the whale. We can say almost for certain that this whale has come to the fjord from the feeding grounds not so long ago. It is very skinny with the spine showing clearly. Good of it to join us to get nice and plump again feeding at the buffet that is Eyjafjörður.
