Beautiful tour today! Finally a little bit of sun in the fjord has brought the snowy landscape to the spot light. Today we sailed from Akureyri having great sea conditions and on the way out we recieved a phonecall of someone spotting a whale near by Hjalteyri. We were sailing towards that direction when we spotted some movement close by the green buoy. At this moment we weren’t sure what we’ve seen so we stopped the boat and waited few minutes. Nothing in front of us came up, but we spotted a distant blow behind us! There was definitely a whale close to Svalbardseyri that must have been diving when we were passing the area. We didn’t make it to reach him before the dive but on the way there bam! another whale popped up right next to us. We turned around again and had plenty of opportunities to observe him. Meanwhile we also seen another dorsal fin possibly belonging to a Minke whale but it came only once and disappeared. On the way back we also spotted lots of harbour porpoises and the whale came up again in the distance but we were already too far to follow. Overall 2 Humpback whales today and 1 sneaky Minke whale!
