Whaaat a tour today! Not only we had a beautiful sunny morning in Akureyri but we found 7 Humpback whales! We were ready to go to same area as yesterday all the way to Hrisey but we were greatly surprised with so many whales coming south we didn’t have to go further than the buoy. At first our attention catched some harbour porpoises, joyfully jumping around us so we stopped the boat and while waiting to see if they come up again we spotted a humpback whale near by. We had just one encounter with him and he was non-fluking, we didn’t see a tail and we waited for a long time for him to come up again but while waiting we spotted few blows close to the shore line so we headed there to check it and found 3 humpback whales together. They were all very relaxed, coming to the surface regularly and we had plenty of opportunities to see them. On our way back 3 more Humpback whales came to the surface ahead of us. We stopped for one of them to take a look and headed back to Akureyri. We just love tours like this and can’t wait to go out there tomorrow!
