A beautiful day in our fjord! Today, we sailed out in nice weather conditions, it was a little windy in the morning, but it calmed down and the sea was very flat in the afternoon. So great conditions for spotting whales!
During our morning tour, we encountered three Humpback Whales swimming together just north of Hjalteyri! The RIB tour got to see tail slapping from one of these three whales! On our way back to Akureyri, we spotted a Minke Whale north of Svalbarðseyri as well as Northen Bottlenose Whales in Pollurinn just before arriving in Akureyri.
In the afternoon, we sailed out to the same area north of Hjalteyri, where we first spotted two Humpback Whales swimming calmly next to each other and repeatedly surfacing around our boats. After watching these whales, we sailed a bit further north, where we saw five more Humpback whales up close, out of which four of them were swimming closely together and surfacing at the same time. We even got to see a few synchronized deep dives.
On the morning and afternoon tours, we spotted more blows further out in Eyjafjörður, so we know that there were even more whales in the area! What a fantastic day on the water!
