What a day! This really was a fantastic day in Eyjafjörður. We had very good and mostly calm weather conditions.
On our morning tour, which was the last RIB boat tour of this season, we were greeted by nine Humpback Whales at the same time south of Hjalteyri! They were all surfacing just as we arrived in the area. We saw more and more Humpback Whales and counted at least 15 in the whole area south of Hjalteyri. One of the whales tail slapped, we had extremely close encounters and many of them were swimming in pairs or groups of up to five individuals at the same time!
In the afternoon, we had an equally stunning tour with just as many Humpback Whales in the same area. In the end of the tour, it seemed as if the Humpback Whale Aretha Frankfin “waved” goodbye by sticking the fluke out of the water and high into the air. This was super special and the whole day was simply beautiful!
