Hállo! Today we sailed out into Eyjafjörður on a misty, rainy morning. It was so cold that it felt as even the mountains were wearing the dark clouds as hats, as these appeared to lay very low over our surroundings. Still, there was a calmness about the water that made everything better. Just before we even reached Hjalteyri, we found ourselves delightfully surrounded by a pod of harbour porpoises which kept getting closer to Hólmosol time and time again. There were times we could even see them moving just under the surface around the boat! As we sailed up north past Hauganes, the clouds began to dissolve and the sunshine came through. Then, a big blow took us by surprise, right there just in front of the vessel! And after, a second, just by our stern! Happiness came through in the shape of two humpback whales ! We rejoiced at the sight of their beautiful flukes and to the sound of their blows as they kept surfacing. And when we thought this day couldn’t get any better, we were reunited with our stinky minke whale on the afternoon Express tour. Oh my, what a whale of a day!
