Hállo! As we sailed out on Hólmosol on yet another misty morning, with clouds hanging low around the mountains, we had no idea what we were actually in for. Precisely eleven minutes after we sailed out of the harbour, Arnar - our captain - spotted a blow from a humpback whale! Mada was so stunned that she hurried up to the guiding box with nothing but the clothes on her back (no overall!!) and the microphone in her hand. This particular individual was not so easy to spot as it kept changing directions, so it didn’t take long for us to leave it to its own devices and sailed further north. And surprise, surprise: just before Hjalteyri, another humpback! As Mada kept chatting away, blinded by the power of holding the mic for the first time for the entire tour, she heard Arnar’s calm voice over the radio - “There is a whale breaching behind us” - wait, WHAT?! The humpback we met earlier kept breaching and tail slapping time and time again! The very first breach of the season. And the cherry on top: a minke whale just smoothly cruising by. Can it get any better than this?!
