With the prevision of high wings we started our tour today a from Akureyri harbor a bit earlier (9h). We started sailing out with the sunniest day so far, but a bit windy. Just opposite Hjalteyri we had our first sighting, some Harbour porpoises fast travelling by us. We kept sailing out in search for something bigger, but we encountered some more porpoises just in from of Hrísey. We circled around a bit and BAM! just behind Hjalteyri a blow. We then quickly sailed towards the area, where we saw a Humpback whale calmly surfacing.
Because the time was a bit tight we couldn’t satay with the gentle whale for more than 20 minutes, but still it was a pretty amazing sight to be able to see the fluke of the animal in the sun.
