Good afternoon nature lovers! So do you know what they say: in May every day a ray… Well it was definitely not the case on todays tour, since we sailed out from Akureyri harbour in a cloudy and bit wavy weather which lately turned in to a bit of now. But of course our fiends the cetaceans didn’t mind about that because we had plenty of sightings today. The fists sighting of the day occurred between Svalbarðseri and Hjalteyri, when we spotted a big blow in the distance. Finding our first Humpback whale at fists it was calmly surfacing quite close to the boat, but it wasn’t being very friendly so we decided to go check the other blows we were seeing in the distance. When turning the boat though we encountered a very curious Minke whale surfacing close to us so we stayed with id for a while. After the minke we sailed to go find the other Humpback whale we were seeing in the distance end once we were close enough… SURPRISE! It was 3 different Humpback whales not only 1. So the only problem was deciding where to look. But the best of all was when it had been quiet for a few mi minutes when BAM tail slap from one of the Humpbacks at our 8 o'clock only 15m from the boat. After that we stayed only for a good bye fluke which was also accompanied by some Harbour porpoises and started our way back home. So I would say overall it was a WHALETASTIC DAY here in Eyjafjörður!
