Good afternoon everyone! What a day in Eyjafjörður! We sailed out today in sunny weather but with southern wind.
In the morning, we were able to see Northern Bottlenose Whales in Pollurinn just a few moments into our tour when leaving from the harbor in Akureyri! On our way north, we spotted a big pod of Long-Finned Pilot Whales just by Hjalteyri and were able to watch these incredible whales. North of Hjalteyri, we additionally encountered one Humpback Whale.
In the afternoon, we sailed out and spotted two Humpback Whales just north of Hjalteyri and saw even more blows further north in the distance. One of the Humpback Whales resurfaced several times in the same area around us and even came up super close to our boat - less than ten meters away! What a sight! It is so beautiful to be able to watch these animals close up when they come to the surface for a breath just next to our boat.
On our way back into the harbor of Akureyri, we encountered at least five Northern Bottlenose Whales swimming together in Pollurin!!! What a surprise at the end of our day!
