Hello everyone! Today was a fantastic day in the fjord because we were able to spot up to 3 different species of cetaceans. But lets start by the beginning; In the morning, we sailed along a mirror-like sea and just north of Svalbarðseyri we encountered the first species of the day, long-finned pilot whales! in the pod we could see juveniles and calves. The second species came out just by Hjalteyri, 2 humpback whales diving and surfacing close to each other. In the afternoon, the pilot whales entered into the harbor area and together with them we could also spot 2 northern bottlenose whales. The pilot whales did not stop sticking their heads out of the water, a behavior known as a spy-hopping, and probably resulting from the presence of northern bottlenose whales in the same area. We decided to leave the animals alone to not disturb them and keep sailing north, and again by Hjalteyri the same two individuals of humpback whales, we turned off the engines and at one time the whales came out very close to us, what an amazing moment and incredible day in the fjord. Look forward for coming back tomorrow.
